Spirited Women Collaborate

Spirited Women Collaborate

I am passionate about fermented foods, tea, and cocktails. And recently, the Kraut Source team connected with two other women-owned businesses, The Owl's Brew and Spirit Works Distillery, and we concocted a collaborative libation that contains everything I love. It's perfect for the Holidays, AND contains ingredients that are chosen with care and made in small batches, along with a splash of live-culture brine from our Fermented Cranberry-Apple Relish recipe.

The Owl's Brew was founded by Jennie Ripps and Maria Littlefield, both selected by the Specialty Food Association as “35 under 35” among food and beverage entrepreneurs. They have introduced a line of tea-based cocktail mixers that contain delicious all-natural combinations of botanicals and are made in small batches.

Spirit Works Distillery's head distiller and co-founder, Ashby Marshall, was voted on the 2016 list of "Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink" by Fortune Magazine. Ashby and her all-female production team concentrate on partnering with local suppliers and using non-GMO grains for their spirits.

And as for yours truly, I am a professional chef, a culinary instructor/nutritionist, author of Happy Foods, and founder of Kraut Source. My passion is to share the nutritional benefits and incredible flavors of DIY fermented foods. By eating lacto-fermented superfoods, we bring our own micro-biome into balance, and we become more conscious about leading healthier lives.

As I sip my Cultured Cran-Apple Spiced Cocktail, I am also reading statistics gathered from
Her Corner; "a global community of women business owners committed to helping women grow their businesses." According to their 2016 findings, "it is estimated that there are now 11.3 million women-owned businesses in the United States generating over $1.6 trillion in revenues. Women entrepreneurship is on the rise."

I am so happy that women are stepping into the world of entrepreneurship and making a positive change. When women are empowered to shape the economy, they not only bring about monetary benefits, but social and environmental awareness as well.

Happy Fermenting!
